Kim was invited to participate on a design team for a church in northeast Portland with the goal of creating a 24-hour interactive prayer room in their building. The team planned furniture layout, colors, and textures; and also created a variety of creative prayer-based activities with the hope that each visitor would engage prayer in a new and interesting way.

Kim’s Design Notes: From prayers written on sheets of paper, rolled up, and displayed in a metal grid; to prayers for the city of Portland typed on a classic typewriter centered beneath a wall-sized map of the city; to running a finger along the path of a wooden labyrinth while meditating… there was a type of prayer expression for everyone! Since the goal was to create many different prayer opportunities that resonated with a wide variety of people, working with a team was helpful as we each approached the project with varying perspectives.
